New York Congressional District #18

District Success Story:
Lincoln Hall

Lincoln HallLincoln Hall is a non-profit residential institute for troubled boys. Founded as a home for Civil War orphans in 1863, Lincoln Hall has persevered in its efforts to set itself apart from other institutions providing specialized services for adolescents by concentrating on teaching them how to learn. It has a rich history but has always focused on dedication to the future. By promoting academic achievement, Lincoln Hall Boys' Haven serves not only the needs of disadvantaged young men; it also serves the needs of society. In 2012, a new Family Reunification Program was launched on campus; is designed to help children reunite with relatives through intensive clinical assessment and case management, the program is funded through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, serving boys between the ages of 12 and 18. Regrettably, Super Storm Sandy presented additional challenges for the organization. A power outage and wind damage caused the storm were significant and left Lincoln Hall facing unforeseen fiscal challenges in providing ongoing services to at-risk adolescents. The managers at the facility reached out to the Rockland SBDC for help in identifying possible sources of assistance and were relieved to learn about the programs available through the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery to directly address storm damages. Working with the SBDC, Lincoln Hall assembled the necessary documentation detailing the damages, costs and needed repairs and received a much needed grant of $50,000 to directly address their needs.

New York Congressional District 18 includes all of Orange County and Putnam County, as well as parts of southern Dutchess County and northeastern Westchester County.
