New York Congressional District #5

District Success Story:
Spartan Demolition

Marc AlleyneMarc Alleyne started Spartan Demolition when he was 25 years old. He worked as a union iron worker until he got hurt, and when he was ready to get back to work, he had been replaced. Instead of waiting for a new position to open up, he used some savings to get licenses, insurance, tools and a working van – and started his business doing exterior demolition, concrete demolition and debris removal. Three years later, Spartan Demolition is one of the largest MBE interior demolition firms in New York City. One of the biggest challenges the business faced was bonding, so Marc was pleased to participate in the NYS Bonding Program, which was offered at the York College SBDC.  The SBDC also provided assistance with business start-up, and MWBE certifications (NYS & NYC), and helped Marc launch the business. Spartan has had contracts with Hunter College, St. John’s University, Blink Fitness, the American Council on Germany, and City MD Urgent Care, among others. The company has been featured in articles by Yahoo and Crain's New York, and in American Express’ open forum blog, Spartan was called “an inspiration to small business.”

New York Congressional District 5 is located in Queens and a small portion of Nassau County.

U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks currently represents this federal district.
