Bia and Khalid Kahn

Bia and Khalid Kahn have two successful business ventures in Western New York that have gained a place in the global marketplace through innovative marketing and quality workmanship. The first one, Chautauqua Woods, manufactures handcrafted custom doors and entryways from hardwoods grown in the Western New York area. The Kahns have worked through many difficulties with this venture, implemented new manufacturing processes, and launched a strong marketing campaign. The success of the business is due to their ability to maintain high quality products while increasing sales in a large national market.

The clients' second venture, Ultrapak, provides flexible packaging materials - heat shrinkable sleeves - used by the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. The success of this venture comes from an emphasis on quality and exemplary customer service as well as from competitive pricing.

The Kahns have consulted the SBDC several times in the last ten years, requesting assistance with market research, financial projections, resource identification, and development of a business plan. They are supportive of small businesses in their area, speaking frequently at business forums and meetings, and generously mentoring local small business owners. In 2003, the SUNY Fredonia Business Club presented the Kahns with its Business person of the Year award.
